Technical Manager (Electrical)

Contract Type:                Permanent/Full-Time

Salary:                             Competitive

Working Hours:               40

Location:                         Hybrid – Office/WFH/Site

Division:                          Group Services

Mainline Group is seeking a Technical Manager to join our Power Division. This is a senior technical leadership role, reporting directly to the MD, with responsibility for supporting the continued growth and delivery of Mainline’s high voltage framework activities, design capability, commissioning support and technical governance.

Your new role:

You will provide practical technical leadership across HV frameworks and recurring client programmes, supporting design, pre-construction, commissioning, tendering and business development activities.

The role is focused on building technical capability, strengthening internal processes, supporting framework delivery, and developing effective relationships with clients, delivery teams and other business functions across framework-based work, bids, client opportunities and operational programmes, rather than being centred on standalone project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior technical support across high voltage frameworks, including design, commissioning, technical assurance and delivery support.

  • Support the development and delivery of engineering solutions for grid connection, substations, underground cable, customer-side electrical installations and other HV/MV infrastructure works.

  • Support design activities from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, energisation and handover.

  • Act as a senior technical point of contact for the Power Division, supporting project teams, the bid department, business development and client-facing opportunities.

  • Provide technical input into tenders, framework submissions, client proposals, methodologies, risk reviews and commercial opportunity assessments.

  • Work closely with Operations, Commercial, Estimating, SHEQ, Procurement, Business Development and Bid teams to ensure technical solutions are practical, compliant and aligned with client requirements.

  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, DSO/TSO stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors and internal functions.

  • Develop and strengthen Mainline’s design, commissioning and technical support capability to support sustainable business growth.

  • Mentor and support engineers, project teams and junior technical staff, helping to improve technical knowledge across the business.

  • Improve engineering processes, design standards, commissioning controls and technical governance to enhance quality, consistency, safety and efficiency.

Qualifications, Skills, Attributes and Experience

  • Experience in a senior technical, electrical design, commissioning or engineering management role within power, utilities or related infrastructure environments.

  • Strong knowledge of MV/HV design, HV substations, underground cable systems and associated electrical infrastructure.

  • Experience supporting framework-based delivery, recurring client programmes, or multi-project technical environments.

  • Experience supporting commissioning, energisation, technical assurance, testing or handover activities.

  • Ability to provide technical support to bids, tenders, business development and client-facing opportunities.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to balance safety, compliance, commercial awareness and practical delivery.

  • Ability to build effective relationships with clients, consultants, internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.

  • Professional approach with sound judgement, discretion and the ability to influence across functions.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

This is an opportunity to join a growing business at an important stage of development. The Technical Manager will have the scope to influence technical delivery, strengthen design and commissioning capability, support framework growth and contribute directly to client development and tender success.
